Utah Water Damage FAQ

The answer is usually yes, but there are exceptions. Whether or not to tear up wet carpet, after experiencing water damage, depends on the type of carpeting you have and also on the affected areas. To prevent further damage to an otherwise salvageable carpet, call Advanced Restoration.
Drywall can be dried depending on its location and the severity of the water damage. We at Advanced Restoration remove all wet drywall because it is the only way to ensure that total dry-out can be performed. Taking any risk by leaving drywall in place and not guaranteeing the opposing sides are dry can leave you with mold growth.

Water damage comes in three forms:

Clear water is clean water that floods from a broken water line into your home. This would include drinking water, or water that you would use for bathing.

Gray water is dirty water that is contaminated but not too harmful. It may contain bacteria and other microorganisms from the dishwasher or a toilet overflow.

Black water is highly contaminated and may contain human waste and harmful chemicals from the sewage system.

I Have Water Damage to My Property, Now What?

  • Do not drink or prepare food with tap water; it may be contaminated.
  • Open windows and doors if possible to air and dry out your home.
  • Do not use candles or light a match because gas lines may be damaged.
  • Do not stand or come in contact with standing floodwater; it may be contaminated with oil or sewage.

  • Block off non-contaminated areas and try not to track waste from one area to another.

  • Ventilate wet areas. Turn on air-conditioning for accelerated drying in summer; in winter, alternate cycles of opened windows and heating.
